“Ugh…that time already?”
Jade turned over in the bed and reached for her vibrating phone.
“8am feels more like 3am-“
Jade grabbed her phone, stopped her alarm, and set her phone back on her night table. She rolled out of bed, stretched and looked at her cat who was sleeping soundly.
“I see you have no problem staying in bed.” she said being half jealous and wishing she could stay in bed.
Her cat flicked his tail and yawned – rubbing in the fact that he could stay asleep – unlike Jade who had a full day of studying and homework.
Jade made her way to the bathroom narrowly avoiding books, papers, and clothes that were scattered on the floor. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and took a change of clothes with her.
She stood in front of the bathroom mirror, stretched, and yawned. She threw her clothes on the floor. She brushed her teeth, combed her long brown hair and, changed out of her pjs. She then put on her khaki pants, green sweater and red scarf.
“There, I’m all ready to start the day.”
With her pjs in hand, Jade walked out of the bathroom, down the hall, and into her bedroom.
She threw her pjs on her bed nearly missing her cat, who hadn’t moved.
“So this what you’re going to do all day huh?”
Her cat’s tail flicked as if to say “yes”.
Jade rolled her eyes. She grabbed her phone and headphones off of her night table and walked out of the room. She then went to the kitchen downstairs to fix some coffee and breakfast.
Jade walked into the kitchen.
“Okay, first things first. Time for some music.”
Jade connected her headphones to her phone and put on some lofi music.
“Much better – now for some breakfast.”
She put her phone on the dining table and walked over to the fridge. She opened the fridge.
“Hmm-“
The fridge with last night’s leftovers, a half full gallon of milk, a gallon of orange juice, and a bag of store bought bagels – wasn’t promising.
“Maybe I should’ve gone to the store last night instead of studying so much-“
Jade’s stomach growled.
Jade shut the fridge door and walked over to the cabinets hoping they would have something more promising and appealing.
Jade opened both cabinet doors. Cat food, a box of cereal, a box of crackers, coffee, coffee filters and coffee cups filled both sides.
“Maybe I’ll just have a cup of coffee.”
Jade grabbed a bag of light roast coffee, a coffee cup, and some coffee filters. She set everything on the counter and shut the cabinet doors.
Jade yawned.
“Geez I’m tired, I don’t know why, I actually went to bed early and got a decent amount of sleep last night.”
Jade yawned again putting the coffee filter in the coffee maker and filling it up with water. She plugged in the machine and turned it on.
Jade walked over to the window sill and opened the window.
“What a beautiful day.”
Jade closed her eyes and took her headphones off around her neck.
The sun shone brightly. Jade could feel it’s warmth, so much so, she rolled her sleeves up. She watched the verdant leaves being swayed by the gentle breeze. Birds chimed in with the winds song creating a symphony worthy of the grandest stage.
“I wish my studies didn’t keep me away from this-“
Hearing the machine beep, Jade grabbed her coffee cup and poured herself a cup of coffee.
Jade took a sip of coffee.
“Ouch, hotness.”
Jade went back over to the window.
“Three months of freedom compared to 9 1/2 months at home studying just doesn’t seem fair-“
Jade took another sip of coffee and continued to look out the window.
People biking over the bridge.
The shimmering azure river – which boats effortlessly glided over.
“Maybe I should try studying someplace else just to give me a change of scenery.”
Jade took a sip of coffee and walked toward the dining table. She sat down, coffee cup on the table, and looked up cafe’s on her phone.
“Hmm…”
Jade scrolled passed different café’s that were in the area, still trying to rub the sleep out of her eyes.
“Slake Coffee House, Mill Factory Café, Puzzle Café, La Boîte à Café-“
Jade took a sip of coffee.
“Black Cat Café? Never heard of it. Must’ve just opened up. Let’s see-“
Jade looked it up and scrolled down.

“Hmm. I’ll give it try. I know it isn’t outside but it’s still out of this stuffy apartment, and it will give me a chance to really focus and get some serious studying done.”
Jade’s stomach growled.
“Oh and get breakfast.”
Jade grabbed her phone and her coffee cup and headed up stairs.
When she walked into her bedroom, she found her cat still sleeping. He might have moved a centimeter since she last saw him.
“Lazy cat.” she said in annoyance.
Jade set her coffee cup and phone on her night table beside her bed, grabbed her backpack from beside her desk, and laid it on her bed away from her cat.
She started to pack her things in her backpack.
“Pencil Case, check-
Laptop and Charger, check-
Notebook, check-
Phone and Headphones, check-“
She looked around the room to see if she’d forgotten something.
“Oh, keys” Jade grabbed them off of her desk.
“Gotcha, ok now I can go.”
Jade stuffed her keys in the side pocket of her backpack and slung her backpack over her shoulder. Then she grabbed her phone off her night table.
“I’ll be back.” Jade said patting her cat.
Her cat just yawned and twitched his ears as if to say, “Just be back in time to feed me.”
Jade stopped patting her cat and walked over to the door. She walked into the hall, down the stairs, into the foyer and out the door – where she locked and closed the door.
She walked down three flights of stairs, into the lobby of the complex and out the doors.
She put her headphones back on.
The warm sun on her face.
The cool wind making her hair dance.
She walked over to a nearby tree and put in the address for the Black Cat Café in her phone GPS.
“Starting route to the Black Café.”
“In 1.7 miles turn left on Rue de la Republique-“
Jade put on her lofi music, locked her phone and walked toward the café.
